Why Ghana?

By lkhogan

In February, a group sponsored by Global Business Assist is heading to Ghana to help 40 people build strong and successful businesses.   This blog will be a learning place for us all as well as a place to share updates on the trip. We welcome your links and comments on Ghana, too. Check for photos and notes from the guys during the trip. Later, they’ll tell us what they learned and how their students are doing with their businesses.

What part of Ghana are you going to? I am leaving at the end of March or the beginning of April to go over there to a remote village in Bamboi. We will be doing missions work and doing a VBS with the children while others in the group work with the teenagers and adults. The group that we are going with is called “Real Missions”. Our church http://www.reallifechurch.com has done some work with setting up small businesses there as well. We are currently looking into sending a 40 foot container over there. It is great to find other people that are doing something similar to what we are doing. My blog, if you are interested in seeing it, is “GodsHands.wordpress.com”

    From Stephen:
Greetings Godshands – We are traveling to a city near Kumasi in central Ghana. We will be setting up a training course of local entrepreneurs. The class will last about a week and we expect about 40 students. We believe that this trip we will be teaching through a translator.

The modules are geared about small businesses from 3-15 employees with basic budgeting, financial stewardship, business proposal writing, introductory human resources, and other “starter” topics.

We then have a contest for the class and give out monitored business loans (we are looking for $10,000.00 from donors to help start the loans) for what we think are the most promising proposals.

Thanks for blogging us, it is great to hear from you. I went on your church web site and looked at your mission’s plans. It looks like you are involved in some truly terrific work there. Please stay in touch.

Nice work Liza. Great idea to stay so connected, on so many levels, with what Fuzz & Co are doing. I look forward to reading future entries, and learning about a region most of us are so far removed from.

Great blog Liza… I really look forward to hearing about this experience. Connections like this make our world feel smaller and smaller.
    What’s a Cedi worth anyway?
